Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis, also known as TB usually attacks the lungs but it can attack any other part of the body such as kidney,spine and brain. It spreads through the air from person to person. The TB bacteria can spread when a person with TB disease opens his mouth.
Symptoms of TB: cough, chills, night sweats, loss of appetite, weight loss, pain in chest, fatigue, fever, coughing up sputum.
Causes:Tuberculosis is a contagious disease caused by a bacterium called mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Spread:When people with TB in their lungs or throat cough, laugh, sneeze, sing, or even talk, the germs that cause TB may be spread into the air. If another person breathes in these germs there is a chance that they will become infected with tuberculosis.
Diagnosis: TB blood tests, TB skin test.
Treatment:TB disease can be treated by taking several drugs from a period of 6 months-9 months. The prescribed drugs should be taken in time and in the correct quantity.
Awareness:To spread awareness, World TB Day is celebrated on 24th March every year.
Prevention: cover your mouth when you cough, and stay away from people who have respiratory illness
